Cheree Burnette

For the past 40 years, Cheree has been helping others achieve their financial and life goals. From the beginning of her career, she was passionate about helping others. Cheree has been there for her clients through the most critical moments in life when choices and decisions are tough. Whether it’s navigating a forced retirement, a job loss, an unexpected illness, caring for aging parents, or selling a business, Cheree’s strength is that of being her client’s strongest advocate when it’s most needed.

With previous experience in banking and the legal professions, she was well prepared to guide her clients through life’s transitions. She believes that to be a good advisor, one must have adequate training, education, and experience., but more importantly, a good advisor must listen and really hear what a person is saying. She believes that there’s more than one right solution, and with time, the solutions may change. She continually looks for and offers new ways to improve her clients’ financial picture throughout the life of the relationship. For Cheree, financial planning is not only about money, but about life.

As a lifelong resident of Southwest Louisiana, giving back to the community is important to her. She has served on numerous boards and acted as chairman of many fundraisers for charitable causes. She is an active member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church where she volunteers as a Lector.

She loves spending time with family and friends, and limiting her guest list is a constant challenge. She loves to cook and entertain, play golf, and travel. She plans for fun much like she plans for her client’s financial success, always looking for the next best thing to do or place to go.

Cheree and Doug are not only business partners, but they are husband and wife. Together they have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.

FAQs

What experience do you have?

Cheree Burnette entered the financial planning industry in 1984, after spending 10 years in the banking and legal professions. The training she received early in her career was some of the most extensive training available in the industry. Training, experience, and education are the pillars of success to which she subscribes. Her background lends itself to advanced financial planning; Estate Planning, Investment Planning, and Tax Planning.

Doug practiced Medicine as a Radiologist for over 30 years and his personal experiences as a client and investor led him to realize the importance of good financial planning and finding the right financial planner. He became a doctor to help people, and that desire continues in his career as a Certified Financial PlannerTM helping his clients achieve financial health. This health is about more than just money, it is about peace of mind. It is about living the life we want and caring for the ones we love. Unlike the slick advertising of some firms who state they can help you if you have $500,000 to invest, Burnette Financial Planning believes everyone deserves a financial plan. Doug’s favorite saying is paraphrased from a saying by Benjamin Franklin: “Failing to plan is planning to fail.”

What are your qualifications?

Cheree Burnette has earned designation as a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and a Life Underwriter Training Counsel Fellow (LUTCF®). Doug Burnette has earned the designation as a Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP®). What financial planning services do you offer?

We offer advisory services in the form of full and modular (segmented) financial plans. These services do not involve actively managing client accounts. Instead, full planning services focus on a client’s overall financial situation. Modular planning services focus on specific areas of client concern. Examples of modular planning are: budgeting, cash flow, insurance, estate planning.

We offer investment management services, defined as including giving on-going investment advice and/or making investments for the client based on the individual needs, goals and objectives of the client. We offer a customized and individualized investment program providing clients advice among various asset classes, ongoing assistance with evaluating and selecting investments, adjusting and rebalancing portfolios.

Are you a fiduciary?

Yes, and we are strong advocates for the fiduciary standard. We believe that the objectivity of the advice an investor receives should never be compromised, and the advisor’s actions should always be in the investor’s best interest.

How will you be paid?

We are fee-only financial advisors. If clients are not also contracting for investment management services, our financial planning services are charged on either a fixed or hourly fee, as determined jointly by the client and our Investment Advisor Representatives (IARs).

Do I have to buy financial products from you?

Our clients have sole discretion about whether or not to implement any investment recommendations made by our IARs. If clients decide to implement recommendations themselves, they are responsible for taking any actions or implementing any transactions required. Our clients are free to select anyone they wish to implement our recommendations.

If I select you to manage my assets, where will my investments be?

When managing assets, we use the services of Buckingham Strategic Partners, LLC (Buckingham), a turnkey asset management provider and an SEC-registered investment advisor based in St. Louis, Missouri.  A qualified custodian will maintain custody of all client funds and securities. Custodians may include, but are not limited to Schwab, Fidelity, and Pershing Advisor Solutions. We do not act as custodian and do not have direct access to client funds and securities.

Buckingham’s Investment Committee determines investment strategies and monitors investment solutions to help meet both the current and future needs of investors and create a better wealth experience.

Investments are provide by Dimensional Fund Advisors, Vanguard, Bridgeway, Avantis and other providers primarily through mutual funds and ETFs.

What types of clients do you have?

We provide advisory services to individuals, families, business, estates and trusts.

What happens to my relationship with the firm if something happens to you?

It is very important to us that we have a Succession Plan. Most advisors have no plan in place. Our plan includes a written agreement with Collective Wealth Advisors with offices in Texas and Arizona, who share our values and philosophies. They have agreed to step in at a minute’s notice to continue offering the service you are receiving. Buckingham is also available, should something happen to us. We are proud to say that we have a Succession Plan designed with your needs in mind.

Partnerships for your success

We have strong relationships with strategic partners that allow us to tap into greater resources and key benefits to serve you best.

We partner with Buckingham Strategic Partners. Buckingham’s team of dedicated professionals are constantly exploring and assessing the ever-changing landscape of investments, tax code, markets and planning strategies with a singular focus on maintaining an evidence-driven fiduciary approach that puts your interest first.
